Today I spent four hours watching the Academy Awards so now I have to stay up till four in the morning to get the reading done. But it's something you need to do when you live in America. In Japan you can't watch it real-time unless you have cable and I didn't.
I was pretty disappointed that Brokeback Mountain didn't win the Oscar. I thought it was a good film, though, of course, I cannot compare since I haven't seen any of the other nominated films. Besides, it is based on a short story. I would have liked to think that the best picture had been first written as a story by a writer. It was another disappointment to me that they never showed Annie Proulx on screen. I always want to see the writer's face when I like his/her story.
Also, I thought Reese Witherspoon talked way too much, and too boring. If I'd ever win the Oscar, I would never give a long speech, never ever try to thank everybody I know. Here's what I would say if I won the Oscar...
Well, I'll think about it when I am more certain about my winning the Oscar, I guess.

I agree about Brokeback. I don't think Annie was there -- I remember hearing she hates crowds and rarely even does book tours.
I thought Felicity Huffman should've won Best Actress. She would've given a much better, less googly speech.
Sarah,
Hmm, too bad. Maybe they could've shown her from her room by remote hookup. I'm totally with you on Felicity Huffman, and Dolly Parton should've won Best Original Song.
